About us

Bush Heritage is a leading not-for-profit conservation organisation protecting ecosystems and wildlife across Australia. We use the best available science, conservation practice and right-way knowledge to deliver landscape-scale impact.

Our purpose is to return the bush to good health so it can be passed on to future generations.  Our team of scientists, field staff, data specialists, conservation planners and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Managers work every day to heal and protect the bush. We actively manage land within our reserve network and work alongside Traditional Custodians and private landholders to extend our impact across entire landscapes.

What We Do

Buying and protecting land

With the support of our donors, Bush Heritage owns 46 reserves protecting more than 1.4 million hectares. All reserves are secured with permanent conservation covenants, providing the strongest possible legal protection in perpetuity.

Aboriginal partnerships

We work in partnership with Traditional Custodians to maintain connection to Country, respect cultural knowledge and support Aboriginal-led land management, including partnerships with Aboriginal landowners.

Agriculture and natural capital

Beyond our reserves, we work across 10 million hectares of agricultural land, supporting farmers and pastoralists with science-led tools and a practical framework to protect and restore ecological values.

Mission, vision, purpose

We work to protect ecosystems and wildlife across the continent.

Our mission is to return the bush to good health so it can be enjoyed and sustained for generations to come. We do this by protecting and managing land of high conservation value, partnering with Traditional Custodians and landholders, and applying the best available science, conservation practice and right way knowledge to achieve lasting, landscape scale impact.
